CUMS模型与人类抑郁症吻合程度高，可以更好地模拟人类长期在各种环境中受到的各种低水平刺激所引起的反应，被认为是目前最经典的动物模型。造模方法通常是将C57BL/6小鼠置于温和应激刺激环境下（如电击足底、通宵照明、禁水、禁食、换笼饲养、昼夜颠倒、束缚等），作用数周或数月后，使小鼠表现出抑郁状态。
